What is FSC Certification?

The purpose of having a FSC Chain of Custody is to be able to help guarantee the supply of sustainable, ecologically safe and legally sourced timber products to the market place.

A brief outline

  • The main purpose of the Forest Stewardship Council's (FSC) Chain of Custody is to allow the movement of certified material to be visibly tracked from forest to retailers, or in our case our buyers.

  • The Chain of Custody is awarded to individual companies after independent assessment of the applicable criteria covering
 a) the logging of the tree,
 b) sawmilling and drying of the timber,
 c) the identification of the timber through any further production process into a product,
 d) the shipment and sales administration of the goods,

So in a complete chain there could be 3 or more links, from the Forest Management certificate to the last Chain of Custody certificate holder.

  • Plaut International limited are holders of the Chain of Custody certificate.

  • In most of our supply chains each member from the Forest owner /concession through to Plaut are certified. Certificates for these trading partners are held on our database.

  • To maintain the integrity of the system, we have to be able to demonstrate through our control of administration that the chain is complete in all transactions related to the sale of certified material /products.

  • All Chain of Custody holders are regularly audited to ensure that records are correct and standards are being maintained
